His interests include mathematics, video games and watching sports.

Bethany Franklin, 16, daughter of Jasper and Eldora Franklin of McPherson, is a home schooled sophomore. Beginning piano at age six, she studied with her mother for four years, then with Donna Reimer for five years. Under Reimer’s instruction, Bethany received five #1 ratings at the Sacred Music Festival and won Elementary and Intermediate Anderson Concerto Auditions. This year was her first year of eligibility for the Advanced Division, which she won under the direction of teacher, Sylvia Wolcott (Central Christian College). The Anderson Concerto Auditions provided huge encouragement and were the highlight of her year. Bethany considers playing with the musicians of the Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra the ultimate climax to her years of study.

Bethany’s other musical interests include teaching piano, accompanying concertos, soloists, ensembles, and playing regularly in church. Since winning the American Guild of Organist’s Private Organ Study Scholarship (2005), she has studied organ with Dr. Steve Gustafson (McPherson College). She has also sung with the Golden Belt Vocal Festival, the Reno County Choral Society and the Bethany Oratorio Society.
